Company History
The Company originally started business under the ownership of George Montague on the corner of Bay Street and Dundas Street in Toronto, Ontario. After being commissioned by the Newfoundland Government in the early 1940s to perform work on various scales, Mr. Montague decided to move his business to Newfoundland because it reminded him of his home country of Scotland. He ran a successful business until his death in 1985.
As per his request, operations were then assumed by The Scale Shop which was incorporated in February of 1985 and entered the new era of electronic weighing and control systems.
In addition, as the Company serviced the weighing systems in the retail food sector it began receiving requests for service on other equipment in particular the bakery and meat departments. The expansion in these areas created the largest scale and foodservice equipment company in the Province.
The current owners assumed operations in 2015 and further expanded operations by focusing on the service of food equipment for the restaurant and foodservice industries.
The Scale Shop has over 3,500 customers across Newfoundland and Labrador and services such industries and the Fishery, Mining, Construction, Offshore Oil, Restaurants, Supermarkets, Bakeries, Forestry, Cannabis, and Laboratories.
